Lean Six Sigma in the Service IndustryWith Kyleen Gray, Director of Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement at Venture Behavioral Health

Schedule: 5:30 PM Hors d'oeuvres; 6:00 PM Speaker begins
Synopsis:  Attendees will learn about the application of Six Sigma in the service industry.  This session won’t be a rehash of the basics of Six Sigma, but will provide real world examples of Six Sigma use in service industries with an emphasis on health care. We will also get into 7 & 8 Sigma since in Healthcare, often times 6 sigma level are not good enough because you are dealing with people lives.  Examples of the ROI calculations will be presented as well as discussion of the tools used and outcomes achieved.   
Kyleen has worked both internally and as an external consultant primarily in the Healthcare and Healthcare manufacturing fields. Currently she is the Director of the Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement Department at Venture Behavioral Health. She has completed Black Belt Lean Six Sigma training.
Kyleen has completed her Masters in Industrial/Organizational Psychology throughWesternMichiganUniversity, with a focus in behavioral analysis performance improvement.

Flowserve Plant Tour

Flowserve will be hosting a plant tour on Friday, April 12, 2013 from 2 PM to 4 PM. This will be located at their Kalamazoo facility: 2100 Factory Street, Kalamazoo, MI 49001. Target Info Session

Target will be hosting an information session on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at 6 PM in room 1235. They will be recruiting for a few internship positions that they still have open for this summer. Hajoca Info Session



Hello all:

Hajoca will be holding an information session on Tuesday, March 19th at 6:00 PM in Schneider Hall room 1235. Hajoca plumbing, HVAC, swimming pool, and industrial supplies for commercial and residential customers. They are very interested in hiring from the ISM program as they were also present at February's ISM Night. Please bring copies of your resume to network after viewing the presentation. There will be a tour of the Ralph Moyle, Inc. facilities in Paw Paw, MI on March 29th at 10:00 AM. Ralph Moyle, Inc. performs services ranging from local transportation to distribution management for clients such as Coca Cola, Pfizer, Welch's, and Gordon Food Service. They are a growing company with an interest in recruiting students from the ISM program. ISM Night and WMU Career Fair

Hello all:

I am sure you are already aware but just a reminder that ISM Night is this Wednesday, February 13th from 6-9:30 PM in the Fetzer Center. Employers request that student attendees dress business casual and come prepared with copies of their resume. Be advised that some employers will schedule interviews for Thursday, February 14th. Please feel free to reach out to us at wmuapics@gmail.com to volunteer by either helping set-up or possibly introduce a company giving a presentation as a part of the events that night. This is a great opportunity to gain some experience and network! Also, the WMU Career Fair will be held on Thursday, February 14 from 10 AM to 3 PM. This is also a wonderful opportunity that you should want to take advantage of. Business Bash January24

Eaton Corporation Informal Resume Help Night

Hello Everyone,


Eaton Corporation in Galesburg MI, would like to host an informal resume
critique night next Monday, December 3rd 2012. This means come as you are
you and bring your resume, yes jeans are more than welcome. You can drop
in anytime during the night and it will start at 5:30pm and will go until
all questions have been asked and answered. You can come and ask any
questions of the representatives that you have, including questions about
Eaton Corporation, resumes, and interviewing.

They would like to build a greater relationship with our students at
Western Michigan University. They would also like to ask you all questions
to gain a better understanding of what all of you are looking for in
internship both at the Undergraduate and Graduate level, as well as post
graduation employment.

There will be pizza and pop for all who attend. If you are interested and
plan to attend at some point during the night please sign up at the link
below. This will allow us to gauge how much pizza will be needed.

Announcements

We will have some open board positions coming available here in December, as 4 members of our board will be leaving.  If you would like to be considered for a board member position, please submit your resume and a 150+ word document to wmuapics@gmail.com.  We will start making these decisions soon to allow you to start shadowing those in the current positions.

We will also be recruiting members for our Student Case Competition team that we send to Chicago every year to compete against other schools within the Great Lakes Area.  This is a great opportunity to gain exposure to some real world problems and help solve them with the team. 

A presentation will need to be made and a paper will need to be written.  We generally do pretty good in this competition.  If you would like more information or would like to be considered please send your resume to wmuapics@gmail.com.

September Events

Hope everyone had a great summer.  Another school year starts next Tuesday so here are the events that we have lined up for September at the moment.  Updates to follow.

  • CPIM Classes Begin on September 27th
  • WMU APICS Kick Off Meeting w/ APICS Southwest Michigan Chapter and American Axle Manufacturing - September 27th - 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm
    • All ISM Majors/Minors and undecided business students are invited
    • Food and refreshements will be provided
    • Dress business casual to professional
    • Student Chapter will have a Q and A session starting at 6:00 to give everyone a overview of what is to come this year.
    • APICS Southwest Michigan Chapter will speak about the opportunities that APICS has to offer
    • American Axle will present about the company, opportunities available, and on information related to Kanban systems.

Mid Summer Update

Hello Everyone,

I know we do not want to think about it, but that time of the year is coming up quickly.  Yes, the fall semester is right around the corner.

Some updates for all of you is we will be having a few events coming up first thing in the month of September.  Obviously you will find us at Business Bash this year on September 20th from 11am until 2pm.   You will also be receiving notices regarding a Kick-Off meeting so that you can meet the board members of the Student Chapter as well as members from the Parent Chapter. 

Lastly the Parent Chapter will again be offering CPIM (Certified in Production and Inventory Management) classes again this fall.  They will be on Thursdays at 6pm until 9pm starting September 27th.  You will have the option of taking either Module 2 or Module 5.

More information regarding all of this will be coming shortly.  These are things to just keep in mind as we get closer to the school year.
